Founders’ Day 2025: Craighouse School celebrates 66 years
To honour our founders, Mr Charles T. Darling and Mrs Joan Darling, and to mark our 66th anniversary, we held our
traditional Founders’ Day Ceremony on Friday 17th October on campus. The event began at 8:45 am and brought together the entire school community, the school leadership and the Parents’ Association board.
We were delighted to welcome the Craighouse Cóndores, our alumni who play for the Chilean national rugby team and will represent Chile at the 2027 Rugby World Cup in Australia: Matías Garafulic (G-2018), Tomás Salas (G-2017), Nicolás Garafulic (G-2016), Santiago Pedrero (G-2019), Rodrigo Fernández (G-2014) and Salvador Lues (G-2017).
During the ceremony, we presented the Founders’ Day School Values Awards to pupils who embody Craighouse’s core values: Respect, responsibility, effort, honesty, loyalty, justice, friendship, solidarity and tolerance.
We also recognised Miss Loreto Sepúlveda, Sports teacher, for her 20 years of service at our school. In addition, we officially inaugurated the Mrs Joan Darling Rose Garden, located in front of the Headmaster’s Office, marked with a commemorative plaque.
At the end of the ceremony, pupils returned to their classrooms to celebrate Teachers’ Day with a class gathering, while the Craighouse Team shared a celebratory lunch.

Founders’ Day 2025: Craighouse School celebra 66 años de vida
Para honrar a nuestros fundadores, Mr Charles T. Darling y Mrs Joan Darling y celebrar los 66 años de vida, el viernes 17 de octubre se realizó en nuestro campus el tradicional Founders’ Day Ceremony. A las 8:45 horas se dio inicio a la actividad, que contó con la participación de toda la comunidad educativa, las autoridades del colegio y la directiva del Centro de Padres.
Asimismo, recibimos la visita especial de los Craighouse Cóndores, nuestros exalumnos que integran la selección chilena de rugby y que representarán a Chile en el Mundial Australia 2027: Matías Garafulic (G-2018), Tomás Salas (G-2017), Nicolás Garafulic (G-2016), Santiago Pedrero (G-2019), Rodrigo Fernández (G-2014) y Salvador Lues (G-2017).
Durante la ceremonia se entregaron los Founders’ Day School Values Awards a los alumnos que encarnan los valores fundamentales de Craighouse: Respeto, responsabilidad, esfuerzo, honestidad, lealtad, justicia, amistad, solidaridad y tolerancia.
En esta jornada significativa, también reconocimos a la profesora de Deportes, Miss Loreto Sepúlveda, por sus 20 años de servicio en nuestra institución. Asimismo, inauguramos oficialmente el Mrs Joan Darling Rose Garden, ubicado frente a Rectoría, con una placa conmemorativa.
Al finalizar, los alumnos regresaron a sus salas para celebrar el Día del Profesor con una convivencia, y el Craighouse Team compartió un almuerzo de camaradería.

CraigMUN 2025 brings together more than 300 participants
With delegations from 19 schools and over 300 attendees, the CraigMUN 2025 conference took place on our campus on Friday 10th and Saturday 11th October. Organised by Craighouse School, the event offered pupils a valuable opportunity to experience Model United Nations simulations, putting into practice key IB competencies: Organisation, negotiation, communication and critical thinking.
Participating schools included Wenlock School, St Margaret’s, The Grange, Santiago College, Lincoln International Academy, Monte Tabor y Nazaret, Southern Cross, British Royal School, Colegio Pedro de Valdivia Las Condes, Colegio Pedro de Valdivia Agustinas, Colegio Pedro de Valdivia Peñalolén, San Ignacio del Bosque, St George’s College, The International School Nido de Águilas, Colegio Cumbres and Everest. We were also joined by two guest schools from Uruguay: The British Schools of Montevideo and Escuela y Liceo Elbio Fernández.
We were honoured to welcome Daniela Rigoli, New Zealand’s Ambassador to Chile, and Rodrigo Morera, Coordination Officer for Economic Affairs and Sustainable Development at the United Nations Resident Coordinator’s Office, as our keynote speakers.
Congratulations to our students on the organising committee: Santiago Malfetano, Laura Iommi, Harman Baxani, Emma Grubb, Sofía Labarca, Emilia Palominos, Helena Seade, Samanvitha Surasgar and Catalina de la Fuente. We also recognise the leadership of the Craighouse Chairs: Emma Grubb, Emilia Palominos, Helena Seade, Harman Baxani and Sofía Labarca.

Conferencia CraigMUN 2025 convoca a más de 300 participantes
Con delegaciones de 19 colegios y más de 300 asistentes, la conferencia CraigMUN 2025 se realizó en nuestro campus el viernes 10 y sábado 11 de octubre. Organizada por Craighouse School, la instancia ofreció a los alumnos una valiosa oportunidad para experimentar simulaciones del Modelo de Naciones Unidas, poniendo en práctica competencias clave del currículo IB: organización, negociación, comunicación y pensamiento crítico.

Year 6 enjoyed their outdoor adventure in Portillo
For the second year running, Year 6 pupils took part in the Outdoor Trip to Portillo, organised by the Middle Section in collaboration with the tour company Latitud 90. The first group set off on Monday 20th October and the second on Wednesday 22nd.
During the experience, pupils enjoyed kayaking on the Laguna del Inca, trekking and climbing, as well as campfires and team-building activities. Each class was accompanied by Middle Section teachers and Latitud 90 instructors, who guided the pupils through this opportunity to connect with nature and develop collaborative skills.
6º Básicos vivieron su aventura outdoor en Portillo
Por segundo año consecutivo, los alumnos de 6º Básico participaron en la Salida Outdoor a Portillo, organizada por la Sección Middle en colaboración con la empresa de turismo Latitud 90. El primer grupo inició su aventura el lunes 20 de octubre y el segundo, el miércoles 22.
Durante la experiencia, los alumnos practicaron kayak en la Laguna del Inca, realizaron trekking y escalada, y compartieron fogatas y dinámicas de trabajo en equipo. Cada curso fue acompañado por profesores de la sección y monitores de Latitud 90, quienes guiaron a los alumnos en esta instancia de conexión con la naturaleza y desarrollo de habilidades colaborativas.
CAS Bingo 2025 brought the Craighouse community together
More than 400 people enjoyed a wonderful evening at CAS Bingo 2025, held on Friday 24th October at 7 pm on our campus.
The event is part of the Creativity, Activity, Service (CAS) programme, a core component of the IB Diploma Programme. As a course requirement, III Medio pupils plan and deliver the bingo from end to end, from logistics to the running of the event.
The primary goal is to raise funds for the organisations where students will carry out their CAS mission in December. This year, $10 million CLP were raised, with the proceeds going directly to the 2025 beneficiary foundations: Fundación Pater Nostrum, Par, Tañi, Escuela San Andrés, Jardín Brazos Abiertos, and Albergue de Lo Barnechea.

Bingo CAS 2025 congregó a la comunidad Craighouse
Más de 400 personas disfrutaron de una gran velada en el Bingo CAS 2025, realizado el viernes 24 de octubre a las 19:00 en nuestro campus.
El evento forma parte del programa Creatividad, Actividad y Servicio (CAS), componente esencial del Diploma del Bachillerato Internacional. Como requisito de la asignatura, los alumnos de III Medio planifican y ejecutan íntegramente el bingo, desde la logística hasta la producción de la jornada.
El objetivo principal es recaudar fondos para las instituciones donde los alumnos desarrollarán su misión CAS en diciembre. Este año se reunieron $10 millones, monto que irá en beneficio directo de las fundaciones 2025: Fundación Pater Nostrum, Par, Tañi, Escuela San Andrés, Jardín Brazos Abiertos y Albergue de Lo Barnechea.

Silver and bronze for Craighouse at the 2025 Physics Olympiad
Craighouse pride! Emma Purcell (IV°A) and Juan Persichetti (III°A) won bronze and silver medals, respectively, in the national stage of the 2025 Physics Olympiad, held on Saturday 25th and Sunday 26th October at the Museo Interactivo Mirador (MIM), with over 30 participants from across the country.
Throughout the competition, students faced two demanding tests —a theoretical and an experimental one— where they demonstrated strong conceptual understanding, critical thinking and remarkable academic commitment.
Before the national stage, eight pupils from III and IV Medio represented Craighouse at the regional phase, organised by the Chilean Physics Society (SOCHIFI) and Universidad Andrés Bello, which brought together more than 250 participants.
We are so proud of our Craighouse delegation: Tomás Clarke, Dylan Conradie, Florencia García, William Hsu, Benjamín Marisio, Juan Persichetti, Emma Purcell and Martín Sabio.
Plata y bronce para Craighouse en las Olimpiadas de Física 2025
¡Orgullo Craighouse! Emma Purcell (IV°A) y Juan Persichetti (III°A) conquistaron bronce y plata en la etapa nacional de las Olimpiadas de Física 2025, realizadas el sábado 25 y domingo 26 de octubre en el Museo Interactivo Mirador (MIM), con más de 30 participantes de diversas regiones.
A lo largo de la competencia, los alumnos enfrentaron dos exigentes pruebas —una teórica y otra experimental— en las que demostraron solidez conceptual, pensamiento crítico y un alto compromiso académico.
Antes de la fase nacional, ocho alumnos de III y IV Medio representaron a Craighouse en la etapa regional organizada por la Sociedad Chilena de Física (SOCHIFI) y la Universidad Andrés Bello, instancia que convocó a más de 250 participantes.

Craighouse shines with colour in the Intercolour Tournaments
Throughout October, our campus was filled with energy and community spirit. The colours white, blue, red and green shone brightly in a new edition of the Intercolour Tournaments, a tradition that invites us to compete with respect and celebrate what brings us together.
On Tuesday 28th October, Middle and Senior pupils took part in the football and volleyball tournaments. It was an exciting day marked by fair play, teamwork and a strong sense of house pride. In volleyball, the Whites claimed victory, while in football, the Reds came out on top.
Meanwhile, on 20th October, the Primary Section launched the Intercolour Festival, which will continue until 7th November. Pupils from Prekinder to Year 4 are taking part, with a clear goal: to strengthen our sense of community through a range of fun and challenging activities.
Throughout these weeks, pupils are participating in sporting, artistic and academic competitions designed to bring together pupils from different classes and year groups around shared goals, promote camaraderie and mutual respect and celebrate our house colours as a symbol of unity and belonging.
The Intercolour spirit is not just about results, it’s about effort, teamwork and the pride of being part of Craighouse. Let’s continue building our community, colour by colour!
Craighouse se viste de colores con los Torneos Intercolour
Durante octubre, nuestro campus se llenó de energía y espíritu comunitario. Los colores blanco, azul, rojo y verde brillaron con fuerza en una nueva edición de los Torneos Intercolour, una tradición que nos convoca a competir con respeto y a celebrar lo que nos une.
El martes 28 de octubre, los alumnos de Middle y Senior disputaron los torneos de fútbol y vóleibol. Fue una jornada intensa, marcada por el juego limpio, el trabajo en equipo y la pasión por representar a cada color. En vóleibol triunfaron los Blancos y en fútbol, la victoria fue para los Rojos.
En tanto, el 20 de octubre dimos inicio al Intercolour Festival en la Sección Primary, instancia que se extenderá hasta el 7 de noviembre. Participan alumnos desde Prekinder hasta 4º Básico, con un objetivo claro: fortalecer nuestro sentido de comunidad a través de actividades variadas y desafiantes.
A lo largo de estas semanas, los alumnos participan en competencias deportivas, artísticas y académicas, diseñadas para reunir a alumnos de distintas clases y niveles en torno a metas compartidas, promover la camaradería y el respeto mutuo y celebrar los colores como símbolo de unidad y pertenencia.
El Intercolour no solo premia resultados, reconoce el esfuerzo, la colaboración y el orgullo de ser parte de Craighouse. ¡Sigamos construyendo comunidad, color a color!
Gordonstoun & Craighouse: Shared values, real opportunities
Gordonstoun’s visit to Santiago has opened a new chapter in its relationship with Craighouse School. Jo Shirriffs, Director of Gordonstoun International Summer School and Enterprises, included our school in a regional tour of British and bilingual institutions in Chile, Argentina and Brazil, highlighting our connection through Round Square —an organisation founded at Gordonstoun itself— and our shared Scottish roots.
Both schools share an educational vision centred on global citizenship, environmental sustainability and outdoor learning. At Gordonstoun —one of the UK’s most prestigious boarding schools, renowned for its focus on leadership, service and adventure and alma mater of His Majesty King Charles III— outdoor education is an integral part of the curriculum from ages 4 to 18, forming the foundation of its well-known Summer School.
The first steps in this partnership are already underway: A pupil from Gordonstoun will be joining Craighouse in the coming weeks. Jo also highlighted the potential to expand opportunities for exchanges, sports tours and co-designed programmes in both Chile and the UK, noting that a “sister school” relationship could naturally evolve as ties continue to strengthen.
The Gordonstoun Summer School is a values-led programme designed to develop pupils’ confidence, independence and resilience through adventure, creativity and a vibrant international residential life that fosters diversity and global friendship. We look forward with enthusiasm to the next steps in this promising collaboration.

La visita de Gordonstoun a Santiago ha abierto un nuevo capítulo en la relación con Craighouse School. Jo Shirriffs, directora de Gordonstoun International Summer School and Enterprises, incluyó nuestro colegio en una gira regional por instituciones británicas y bilingües en Chile, Argentina y Brasil, destacando nuestra conexión a través de Round Square —organización fundada precisamente en Gordonstoun— y nuestras raíces escocesas compartidas.
Ambos colegios comparten una visión educativa que pone el acento en la formación de ciudadanos globales, la sostenibilidad ambiental y la educación al aire libre. En Gordonstoun —considerado uno de los colegios internados más prestigiosos del Reino Unido, conocido por su enfoque en liderazgo, servicio y aventura y alma mater de su majestad el Rey Carlos III— el aprendizaje al aire libre es parte integral del currículo desde los 4 hasta los 18 años, y constituye la base de su reconocido Summer School.

Our Head of School presides at the LAHC Annual Conference in Sao Paulo
From 14th to 17th October, the Latin American Heads Conference (LAHC) held its Annual Conference 2025 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, bringing together school leaders, teachers and educational partners from across Latin America. The event was hosted for the first time across three venues: The main conference hotel, St. Nicholas School Alphaville and St. Francis College.
Our Head of School, Mr Patrick Lyons, presided over the conference in his role as Chair of the LAHC. During the closing ceremony, he presented a commemorative plaque to Alan Downie, honouring his 11 years of service as Executive Officer and celebrating his appointment as Honorary Member of the association.
This year’s theme “Educating for a Better World” invited participants to reflect on the purpose of education and to explore how schools can move beyond test scores to focus on meaningful, transformative learning. It is worth noting that the conference logo was designed by our pupil, Renato Olivares, who took part in the selection competition and achieved second place.

Entre el 14 y el 17 de octubre, la Latin American Heads Conference (LAHC) realizó su Conferencia Anual 2025 en Sao Paulo, Brasil, reuniendo a directivos, docentes y socios educativos de toda Latinoamérica. El evento se llevó a cabo, por primera vez, en tres sedes: El hotel principal del evento, St. Nicholas School Alphaville y St. Francis College.
Nuestro Rector, Mr Patrick Lyons, presidió la conferencia en su rol de Chair de la LAHC. Durante la ceremonia de clausura, entregó una placa conmemorativa a Alan Downie, en reconocimiento a sus 11 años de servicio como Director Ejecutivo y celebrando su nombramiento como Miembro Honorario de la asociación.
El tema de este año “Educating for a Better World” invitó a los participantes a reflexionar sobre el propósito de la educación y a explorar cómo los colegios pueden ir más allá de los resultados académicos para centrarse en un aprendizaje significativo y transformador. Cabe destacar que el logo de la conferencia fue diseñado por nuestro alumno, Renato Olivares, quien participó en el concurso de selección y obtuvo el segundo lugar.
